The Walrus

My first editorial commission came this year! A spot illustration in The Walrus accompanying the article “What Canada’s Rocks Can Tell Us About Extraterrestrial Life” by Nicole Schmidt.

It was fun brainstorming on how to sum up stromatolites (structures created by bacteria), ancient life, Canada, and space in one image. A few of my ideas involved Ediacaran fauna, while some centred the bacteria, but the final image chosen was of a Mars Rover examining stromatolites on the Canadian Shield.

Big thanks to my art director, Meredith.
